Many people wonder why we’ve chosen to pursue organic certification, especially as a brand-new farm. For us, it comes down to two things: trust and values.
We’re starting Moon River Organic Farm with the goal of farming transparently and regeneratively — growing healthy food while caring for the land. Since we’re selling directly to you, our customers, we want you to feel confident in how your food is grown.
So why go through the paperwork, record-keeping, and inspections required for certification?
- Trust and Clarity
Terms like “natural,” “pesticide-free,” or “no spray” can mean different things to different people, and they’re not verified by anyone. “Certified Organic,” on the other hand, follows strict national standards and includes third-party inspections. That means less guesswork for you — and full accountability for us. - Values and Stewardship
The organic movement began with small farmers in the 1960s and 70s who believed in healthy soil, biodiversity, and responsible stewardship of the land. We share those values. By becoming certified, we’re committing not just to farming organically, but to upholding the spirit of what “organic” truly means.
While we won’t have crops in the ground until 2026 and won’t be harvesting until then, we’re already preparing to pursue certification so that when you buy from Moon River Organic Farm, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting: food grown with integrity.
