Organic & Low-Till Farming Practices in Sussex County

Regenerative Flower Farming & Soil Health

Healthy soil grows healthy plants — and healthy plants don’t need constant chemical interventions. By farming in balance with nature, we’re producing vibrant blooms, sequestering carbon, and leaving the land better than we found it.

Our Farming Philosophy

Everything Begins With The Soil

At Moon River Organic Farm, we believe that truly vibrant flowers can only come from healthy, living soil — a complex web of fungi, microbes, earthworms, and organic matter working together below our feet. By nurturing that life, we create the foundation for resilient crops and nourishing ecosystems.

Our Practices

Cover Cropping. Keeping the soil covered with living plants to protect and feed the microbial life year-round.

Natural Fertility. Building soil structure naturally with compost, strategic crop rotations, and organic amendments.

Low-Till Methods. Minimizing soil disturbance to preserve delicate fungal networks. (We utilize precise power harrowing rather than deep plowing).

Ecological Balance. Using natural pest and disease controls only when necessary, always prioritizing observation and prevention.

In Action

Low-Till in Practice

We utilize a walk-behind tractor system equipped with a power harrow. This allows us to prepare pristine, 48-inch beds for high-intensity planting while only mixing the very top layer of the soil. This crucial step protects the deep soil structure while ensuring a perfect seedbed for our delicate cut flowers.

The Community Commitment

Growing for the Future

Moon River Organic Farm is being built as a place where soil health and community health go hand in hand. While our fields are expanding, our commitment remains clear: to grow sustainably for the Green Township community and beyond.
